The EU has set its energy and climate targets for 2030 and 2050, in line with the targets agreed in Paris in 2015, by presenting its European Green Deal on 11 December 2019. After, it presented several plans focusing on climate, industry, food, circular economy, decarbonisation, energy production, etc., all oriented to reach the mentioned targets.
Then, the post-pandemic and the war in Ukraine accelerated the need to reach the EU timeline targets without delay. In fact, the increase in hydrocarbon prices and the desire expressed by the EU to reduce dependence on Russia have given even more strength to the strategic objectives indicated by the European Green Deal.
