MFF 2021-2027 - The Multiannual Financing Framework

BUDGETS & BUDGETARY CONTROL

Brussels,

EU Budget for 2021-2027 period: € 1 047.3 billion

To ensure consistency in investments and continuity of expenditure, as well as security of revenue, the EU decides on multi-annual plans lasting seven years where, year by year, spending targets are set. So today we know how and where the EU will spend the € 1 047.3 billion during the period 2021 and 2027.

On July 2020, the European Council (the Summit of the head of States and Governments of the European Union), decided its position on the MFF 2021-2027, on the basis of the EU Commission proposal.

On 10 November 2020, the European Parliament and EU Member States in the Council reached a historic agreement on the next long-term budget (as well as the NextGenerationEU, the temporary recovery instrument as response to Coronavirus pandemic). With the formal endorsement and signature by the two EU Institutions, the MFF is in force.
