Digital Education Action Plan
Action 5: Digital transformation plans for education and training institutions
To effectively benefit from lessons learned during the Covid-19 pandemic period, including how to use digital technologies to enhance the quality and inclusivity of education and training, requires ongoing planning and monitoring, support, resources and guidance.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, education and training institutions worldwide had to quickly transition to online and distance learning. This shift presented various challenges, including the need to develop new skills, tools, resources, and teaching methods. To ensure the effective use of digital technologies in education and training, ongoing planning, support, and resources are necessary.
The Erasmus+ program aims to support the digital transformation plans of education and training institutions, such as primary and secondary schools, vocational education and training (VET) centers, higher education institutions, and adult learning institutions. The program provides funding for cooperation projects that promote the use of digital tools and enhance the quality and inclusivity of education.
To further support teachers in adapting to digital pedagogies and using digital tools, the Erasmus+ Teacher Academies are being established. These academies will offer professional development opportunities and facilitate collaboration between teachers and educators.
Additionally, an online self-reflection tool called SELFIE for Teachers was launched. Based on the Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu), this tool helps teachers assess their digital competences, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and plan further training.
The expected outcomes of these initiatives include improved digital capacity in education and training institutions, increased professional development opportunities for teachers and trainers, and support for teachers in identifying their digital strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, these efforts aim to foster a more effective and inclusive digital learning environment.
