EU High-level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence - AI HLEG

In 2018, the European Commission established the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI HLEG) to provide strategic advice on its AI strategy. Below is a summary of its work, deliverables, and collaborations. It ended in 2020.

Collaboration with the European AI Alliance

  • The European AI Alliance is an online community with over 4000 members from academia, business, civil society, and policymaking.
  • Members contributed feedback for the Ethics Guidelines and participated in live events:
    • First European AI Alliance Assembly (2019): 500 members provided direct input.
    • Second European AI Alliance Assembly (2020): Over 1900 participants discussed the Commission’s White Paper and next steps in European AI policy.
