​The automotive industry is by far the one that has the greatest impact on the economy, having strong links with most of all economic sectors. It also has a multiplier effect, being able to determine the development of many industrial sectors. At the same time, road transport emissions continue to be a major source of air pollution.

The aim of EU automotive policy is to create an internal market for vehicles, to ensure a high level of environmental protection and safety, to strengthen competitiveness and to provide a stable level playing field for the industry.
