Five EU Countries Stay Outside the Euro, Keeping Currency and Borrowing Risks Alive
The Commission’s 2026 Convergence Report finds that Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Sweden are not yet ready to adopt the euro. Inflation, public deficits, borrowing costs, exchange-rate arrangements and incompatible central-bank legislation continue to divide the five countries.
