Governments of the 27 hesitated to fully support the European Commission's ambitious goal to increase renewable energy from 21% to 45% of final energy consumption within 6 years. They managed to lower the target to 42.5% by 2030. This shift towards renewables, while more expensive than traditional energy sources, is expected to result in higher costs for citizens and businesses in the future, even without external geopolitical pressures. Some studies even indicate that energy costs for electric vehicles may remain relatively high.
