    Italy received PPE from Member States

    Italy received a delivery of personal protective equipment coordinated through the EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre. Several EU Member States have also sent protective equipment such as masks, overalls and ventilators to Italy, as well taking in Italian patients for treatment in their countries.

    China provided Italy with 2 million surgical masks, 200,000 N95 masks and 50,000 testing kits

    Following an agreement reached between President von der Leyen and Premier Li Keqiang last month, a donation of protective equipment from China to the European Union has now arrived in Rome, Italy, via the  EU Civil Protection Mechanism

  • 7 April 2020
    Doctors and nurses to Italy from Romania and Norway. Austria delivers disinfectant

    A team of European doctors and nurses from Romania and Norway, deployed through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, is being immediately dispatched to Milan and Bergamo to help Italian medical staff battling coronavirus. Austria has also offered over 3,000 litres of disinfectant to Italy via the Mechanism. The Commission will coordinate and co-finance this European assistance.

500,000 people have been flown back to Europe thanks to flights organised by the Member States. In addition, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has facilitated the repatriation of more than 27,000 EU citizens to Europe from all over the world.
