Agriculture policy in brief
The European Union’s agricultural policy framework combines direct income support, market management tools, rural development measures and high standards for food and feed safety.
Together, these policy areas support farmers, strengthen agricultural markets, promote balanced rural development and ensure that food placed on the EU market meets strict safety and quality requirements.
EU Direct Support to Producers – EAGF
This area covers the first pillar of the Common Agricultural Policy, based on direct support to farmers and producers. It includes the main mechanisms through which the EU helps sustain farm income and supports plant and animal production across the Union.
ENTERMarket Measures
This section focuses on the Common Market Organisation and the policy tools used to stabilise and regulate agricultural markets in the European Union. It explains how the EU addresses market disturbances, supports specific sectors and improves the functioning of agricultural markets.
ENTEREU Support for Rural Development
This is the second pillar of the Common Agricultural Policy. It covers the EU’s support for rural territories, farm modernisation, environmental sustainability and the wider economic and social development of rural areas, complementing direct payments and market measures.
ENTERFood & Feed Safety
This section covers the EU framework designed to ensure that food and feed are safe, nutritious and subject to strict controls throughout the supply chain. It highlights the rules and standards protecting consumers, public health and product quality in the European market.
