On July 3, 2021, the EU Directive on Single-Use Plastics came into force. This is the first European Directive that bans certain types of plastic consumer products which, for their single use, are discharged in large quantities into the environment. The Directive was adopted in May 2019 and decided new rules: ban of many single-use plastic products and fight against plastic pollution and marine litter. The EU war against plastic left in the environment was born years earlier, when studies and research showed the harmfulness of plastic in the food chain. The plastic is now in our bodies and dirty all the waterways and oceans. Plastic is a catalyst for bacteria colonies and therefore a source of diseases and infections.
