Let's take a look on the 2023 EU Action Program in the fight against cancer:

  1. Europe's Beating Cancer Plan: The EU launched the "Europe's Beating Cancer Plan" in 2020, which is a comprehensive strategy to address cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship. The plan focuses on increasing cancer prevention efforts, improving access to quality cancer care, and promoting cancer research and innovation.
  2. Research and Collaboration: The EU supports cancer research through funding programs such as Horizon Europe, which aims to advance scientific knowledge and develop innovative treatments and therapies for cancer.
  3. Screening and Early Detection: The EU promotes cancer screening programs to detect cancer at an early stage when treatment is more effective. This includes initiatives for breast, cervical, colorectal, and other types of cancer screening.
  4. Access to Treatment and Care: The EU aims to ensure equitable access to high-quality cancer treatment and care across member states. Efforts are made to reduce disparities in access and outcomes for cancer patients.
  5. Tobacco Control: The EU has implemented strict regulations to control tobacco use, which is a leading cause of cancer. This includes measures such as standardized packaging and anti-smoking campaigns.
  6. Cancer Registry and Data Collection: The EU encourages the establishment of cancer registries to collect comprehensive data on cancer incidence, treatment, and outcomes. This data helps in evaluating cancer trends and guiding policymaking.
