To ensure consistency in investments and continuity of expenditure, as well as security of revenue, the EU decides on multi-annual plans lasting seven years where, year by year, spending targets are set. So today we know how and where the EU will spend the € 1 047.3 billion during the period 2021 and 2027.
On July 2020, the European Council (the Summit of the head of States and Governments of the European Union), decided its position on the MFF 2021-2027, on the basis of the EU Commission proposal.
On 10 November 2020, the European Parliament and EU Member States in the Council reached a historic agreement on the next long-term budget (as well as theNextGenerationEU, the temporary recovery instrument as response to Coronavirus pandemic). With the formal endorsement and signature by the two EU Institutions, the MFF is in force. This table shows the distribution of the resources of the MFF 2021-2027 with those decided under the Next Generation EU fund to counter the effects of the Coronaviruspandemic
In accordance with Article 4 of the 2021-2027 MFF Regulation, the Commission makes every year, ahead of the budgetary procedure for the year n+1, a technical adjustment to the MFF and communicates this adjustment to the European Parliament and the Council.
