Transport National Enforcement Bodies (NEB)
MOBILITY & TRANSPORT
The European Union has established regulations to protect the rights of passengers during their travel, whether by air, rail, bus, coach, or ship. To ensure these rights are respected and enforced, EU rules require each Member State to designate or establish National Enforcement Bodies (NEBs).
The primary role of these national enforcement bodies is to monitor and verify that transport operators within their jurisdiction are treating all passengers in accordance with the rights laid out in EU regulations. This includes ensuring that passengers receive appropriate assistance and compensation in cases of delays, cancellations, or other service disruptions, as well as ensuring the rights of passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility are upheld.
If passengers believe that their rights under the EU regulations have not been respected during their journey, they are advised to contact the national enforcement body in the country where the incident occurred. For instance, if a passenger faces a flight cancellation without proper assistance or compensation in France, they should contact the French NEB responsible for air passenger rights.
These bodies are responsible for handling complaints, investigating potential violations of passenger rights, and taking necessary actions to ensure compliance with EU regulations. By doing so, they play a crucial role in maintaining fair and consistent treatment of passengers across the European Union.
