Brussels,

Payment Services

EU is preapring an integrated market for payment services. To achieve this goal, the Commission adopted a Package on modernizing payment services and opening access to financial data on June 28, 2023, now in discussion by legislators.

The EU's objectives for creating such a market include ensuring standardized rules for payment services throughout the EU, promoting clear and transparent information regarding payments, facilitating fast and instant payment transactions to enhance efficiency, implementing measures to safeguard consumers when using payment services, and offering a broad range of payment services to provide choices to consumers and businesses.

The EU's ultimate aim is to establish a single payment area where citizens and businesses can conduct cross-border payments as easily and securely as they do within their own countries. Additionally, the EU intends to ensure that cross-border payments are subject to the same charges as domestic payments, further enhancing the integration and efficiency of the European payment services market.
