The biodegradability properties of oxo-degradable plastics have already been excluded by the European Council of Ministers and by the European Parliament, in June 2018. Launched last February 2018 an ECHA procedure for possible restrictions of micro-plastics and oxo-degradable plastics.

EU is not a military superpower, as US, Russia or China. It does not even have a real weight in foreign policy. However, Europe is the first commercial superpower and if wants to play a crucial role, this is the right place.

This is why the European Commission, the EU Government, increasingly wants to play a global actor role with a global commitment to the environment. In a globalized world, environmental regulations decided unilaterally by a superpower could become an incredible weapon.

The last chapter of its global commitment in order of time is "Plastics", a product as useful as it has become macroscopically polluting for the quantities at stake. Europe alone produces 25 million tons of plastic waste a year. Worldwide, 13 million goes to sea, at a cost of 8 billion dollars.

Data sufficiently clear to induce the European Commission and all member States to act and change the game' rules. Being a commercial superpower, the effects will be seen worldwide, because they will have to be implemented by anyone wants to trade with the EU. (1/2)
