European Technology and Innovation Platforms (ETIP)


​In order to support the implementation of the actions of the SET Plan, the EU created and funds European Technology and Innovation Platforms (
ETIPs), by bringing together representatives from EU countries and industry, with the participation of researchers in key areas. They promote the market uptake of key energy technologies by pooling funding, skills, and research facilities.

Wind Platform

ETIP.Wind | EU Technological Platform

The European Technology & Innovation Platform on Wind Energy (ETIPWind) was established in 2016 to inform Research & Innovation policy at European and national level.
ETIPWind provides a public platform to wind energy stakeholders to identify common Research & Innovation (R&I) priorities and to foster breakthrough innovations in the sector.

Photovoltaic Platform

ETIP PV | EU Technological Platform

The activities of this Platform focus on the opportunities and challenges on photovoltaic sector.
It provides recommendations for improving the competitiveness of the European photovoltaic industry: upstream, regarding the supply of raw materials, the production of equipment and the production of cells and modules; downstream, regarding technical and market solutions for network integration, installation, etc.)

Ocean Energy Platform

OEE | EU Technological Platform

Geothermal Platform

EGEC | EU Technological Platform

EGEC, the European Geothermal Energy Council, is a non-profit international organisation founded in 1998 to promote the European geothermal industry and enable its development both in Europe and worldwide, by shaping policy, improving business condition, and driving more research and development.
Based in Brussels, it works with its  members on policy, market intelligence, and communication, providing a link between the industry and European institutions. More than 120 members from 28 countries, including developers, equipment manufacturers, electricity providers, national associations, consultants, research centres, geological surveys, and public authorities, make EGEC a unique network, uniting and representing the entire geothermal sector.

Smart Networks for Energy Transition

ETIP SNET | EU Technological Platform

The Smart Network for Energy Transition have been created by the European Commission in the framework of the new Integrated Roadmap Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) by bringing together a multitude of stakeholders and experts from the energy sector.

Renewable Heating & Cooling Platform

ETIP RHC | EU Technological Platform

It bring together stakeholders from the biomass, geothermal, solar thermal and heat pump sectors to define a common strategy for increasing the use of renewable energy technologies for heating and cooling. It is organised by five horizontal Working Groups bring together interested experts from different technology panels to work on common horizontal topics, defined on the basis of main challenges to be addressed by the RHC-sector.

Bioenergy Platform

ETIP | EU Technological Platform

ETIP Bioenergy Platform is  a formal interlocutor by the European Commission and carries out the following main activities:
  • Contributing to the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) activities and strategy 
  • Elaborating and updating the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA)
  • Assisting the European Commission and Member States in defining their research programmes
  • Reporting on the implementation of R&I activities at European, national/regional and industrial levels to support the work of SETIS 
  • Developing knowledge-sharing mechanisms that help bringing R&I results to deployment
  • Identifying technical and non-technical barriers to the delivery of innovation to the energy market; such as mechanisms to mobilise investments, demonstration activities, regulations, education and training actions and communication.

CO2 Platform

ZEP | EU Technological Platform

ZEP is the technical adviser to the EU on the deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) – a European Technology and Innovation Platform (ETIP) under the Commission’s Strategic Energy Technologies Plan (SET-Plan). CCS and CCU will be essential for the European transition to net neutrality, ensuring that power generation and industrial processes are secure, reliable and sustainable

Nuclear Energy Platform​

SNETP | EU Technological Platform

The Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform (SNETP) was established in September 2007 as a R&D&I platform to support and promote the safe, reliable and efficient operation of Generation II, II and IV civil nuclear systems. Since May 2019, SNETP has been operating as an international non-profit association (INPA) under the Belgian law pursuing a networking and scientific goals.
It is recognised as a European Technology and Innovation Platform (ETIP) by the European Commission.
The international membership base of the platform includes industrial actors, research and development organisations, academia, technical and safety organisations, SMEs as well as non-governmental bodies.
